As Indonesia U-23 Coach For The 2025 SEA Games, Indra Sjafri: Must Be Maximum Responsibility

JAKARTA - Indra Sjafri has been officially appointed as the coach of the U-23 Indonesian national team who will appear at the 2025 SEA Games. He emphasized that he would carry out it with full responsibility for maximum results.

The 2025 SEA Games agenda will take place in Thailand on 9-20 December 2025. With the available time, PSSI will also conduct the selection of coaches on Monday, September 29, 2025, where Indra Sjafri is trusted to lead the team.

"If the name is state duty, it must be carried out with a maximum sense of responsibility and struggle," said Indra Sjafri after being appointed coach for the 2025 SEA Games.

The West Sumatra coach also stated that he had started to think about the first steps to prepare the team. Along with his plan, he also studied the official regulations for the 2025 SEA Games, including the provisions for the number of players and the competition system.

In addition, he began forming a team of coaches and staff who would accompany him during the preparation process.

"We have discussed with the Secretary General (PSSI) to form a support team. Later it will be announced who will help me."

"Furthermore, we will look for the best and most suitable players to face the SEA Games," said Indra Sjafri.

The appointment of Indra Sjafri to be a coach at the SEA Games was not without reason. Reflecting on his track record, he had an impressive record when he led the national team age group.

Indra Sjafri even succeeded in making history at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia after successfully taking the U-22 Indonesian national team to win a gold medal. This achievement was achieved after a dramatic 5-2 victory over Thailand in the final through extra time.

This success is an important moment because it ended the title fasting for 32 years, since Indonesia last won gold at the 1991 SEA Games.
