Korea Open 2025: Women Meet Akane In Semifinals

Putri Kusuma Waradani will face Akane Yamaguchi in the semifinals of the Korea Open 2025 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA - Putri Kusuma Wardani will meet with Akan Yamaguchi in the semifinals of the Korea Open 2025, which is their third clash in a row.

The 23-year-old badminton player reached the last four of the tournament after repatriating host representative Kim Ga-eun with a score of 21-6 and 21-15 at Suwon Gymnasium on Friday, September 26, 2025.

"Alhamdulillah, overall, I am quite happy to win from the host's representative and to the semifinals," said Putri after the match as received in the statement.

The clash with Akane in the semifinals will certainly be a tough homework for Putri. He had never previously won against the Japanese representative from five clashes.

The latest two defeats occurred at the BWF World Championships and the 2025 China Masters last week. In total this year, he has lost three times, including at the Indonesia Open.

"Tomorrow (27 September 2025) the third time in a row will meet Akane Yamaguchi. I want to improve the game from the previous one and there must be curiosity to win," said Putri.

Tickets obtained by Putri also ensured that all Indonesian representatives who fought in the quarter-finals of the tournament all qualified for the semifinals.

Four tickets were previously obtained by men's singles Alwi Farhan and Jonatan Christie as well as men's doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and mixed doubles Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah.

Alwi and Jonatan are certain to clash in the top four. Thus, the men's singles representative is confirmed to have one ticket to the final round of the BWF Super 500 event.
