Bayer Leverkusen Value Hjulmand Has A Method According To Club's Style, Unlike Erik Ten Hag

Bayer Leverkusen has appointed Kasper Hjulmand as head coach after the dismissal of Erik Ten Hag. The Bundesliga club announced on Monday, September 8, 2025, local time.

Ten Hag have been sacked in just two league games this season - a total of three games including one DFB Pokal match.

The baton of the relay is now in the hands of Hjulmand who signed the contract until 2027. He is familiar with the Bundesliga.

The 53-year coach served as head coach of the Danish National Team (Timnas) and one year in the Bundesliga with Mainz 05 in the 2014/2015 season, where he replaced Thomas Tuchel.

Leverkusen claims that Hjulmand fits the team's game philosophy better, unlike Erik ten Hag.

"We are pleased to have brought in Kasper Hjulmand, whose work we have closely monitored for a long time."

Hjulmand led the successful Danish football era, taking the team to the semifinals of Euro 2020 - where they lost 1-2 to Gareth Southgate's England - and qualified for the 2022 World Cup.

"I've always seen Bayer Leverkusen as a very well managed, well-structured, and very ambitious club. This impression has been proven in recent days."

Hjulmand's first job as coach was on September 13, 2025 when Leverkusen hosted Eintracht Frankfurt on target of winning their first league win of the season.
