Newcastle Legend Alan Shearer Comments On Isak Transfer To Liverpool: Bad Football Image

Alan Shearer opened his voice regarding Alexander Isak's transfer to Liverpool (Instagram/@alanshearer).

JAKARTA - Newcastle United Legend and the England National Team, Alan Shearer, believe that Alexander Isak's behavior in forcing a move to Liverpool is a bad image for football.

Isak is on strike to realize a transfer that broke the Premier League record of 125 million pounds (around Rp. 2.7 trillion) to Liverpool on Monday, September 1, 2025.

He also did not enter the Newcastle squad during the three 2025/2026 Premier League matches that had been played.

"I don't like how it ended. I don't think it's ever true if a player goes on strike and refuses to play for the club while you're paid and has a contract."

"I understand from the opposite side, when a club wants to get rid of you, but they still pay your salary. When you sign a contract, you are obliged to fulfill it," Shearer said.

The former England captain added that Isak must have had his own reasons for doing this. Moreover, if it is related to the competition for a bigger trophy.

"Alexander Isak is a good player, joining a great football club who will definitely compete for all the big trophies."

"However, as I said, I don't like how it happened. He must have his own reasons."

"We can thank him for what he did at Newcastle United, but the situation has been chaotic throughout the summer."

"I don't think it's any use to anyone. It's really bad for football and for the fans because they're paying, which makes our game great."

"It wasn't very good at all when you were paid by the club and refused to play. Finally, he moved to Liverpool, that's what he wanted," Shearer said again.

Throughout defending Newcastle United since his arrival which broke the club's record transfers in August 2022, Isak has helped the club a lot.

He brought the Magpies back to the Champions League and won trophies in more than 70 years (Carabao Cup 2024/2025 winners).
