Erling Haaland Changes Name Behind The Jersey Of The Norwegian National Team

JAKARTA - Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has changed the name behind the jersey to be worn in the Norwegian National Team (Timnas).

The 25-year-old will now add his full name to Braut Haaland. He will wear the new jersey in the near future when he gets a call from Norway on the FIFA Matchday agenda and European Zone 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

Norway will face Finland in a friendly next week on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

After that, they will undergo two World Cup 2026 Qualification matches to host Moldova on September 9, 2025, and Israel on October 11, 2025. Both matches will be held at Ullevaal Stadium, Oslo.

Norway has so far impressed in Group I of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. They lead the standings with perfect 12 points from four matches to be above Israel, Italy, Estonia, and Maldova.

Haaland is expected to contribute a lot after starting this season positively. He has already scored two goals against Wolverhampton in the opening match of the 2025/2026 Premier League.

The striker, who has scored 42 goals in 43 games for Norway, hopes to bring his country to the 2026 World Cup, given he has never played in a major international tournament in his career.

Norway has not appeared again in the World Cup finals since the last time it did so in the 1998 edition. In six editions after the 1998 World Cup in France, Norway has always failed to qualify.
