The Indonesian U-16 Women's National Team Completes The 2025 U-16 Women's AFF Cup In Fourth Place

The Indonesian U-16 Women's National Team had to settle for the fourth place in the 2025 AFF Putri U-16 Cup (doc. Indonesian national team).

JAKARTA - The U-16 Indonesian Women's National Team closed its journey in the 2025 U-16 Women's AFF Cup (ASEAN U-16 Girls' 2025 Championship) as fourth place.

Competing at Manahan Stadium, Surakarta, Friday, August 29, 2025, Indonesian Western Time (WIB) afternoon, Garuda Pertiwi Muda had to settle for finishing fourth after losing dramatically to Vietnam U-16 on penalties 6-7.

Since the beginning of the match, the atmosphere of the match was tight. Vietnam had a quick lead in the second minute through Thi Thao Nguyen's kick which turned after hitting Indonesian players to outwit goalkeeper Alleana Ayu Arumi.

However, the enthusiasm of the young Indonesian players did not fade. Only 14 minutes later, Nafeeza Ayasha managed to equalize 1-1 through her action in the Vietnam penalty box.

The fierce battle continued until the second half. Vietnam threatened Indonesia's goal several times, including through Thi Linh Chi's kick which hit the bar in the 56th minute.

On the other hand, Garuda Pertiwi Muda also had a golden opportunity, including through Indira Fatima's shot and a free kick from the Vietnam goalkeeper's backpass. Unfortunately, the 1-1 draw lasted until normal time ended.

The match was also determined by penalty shootout. The young Indonesian executioners appeared confident, the first six kickers successfully fulfilled their duties.

However, in the seventh kicker, Vivi Vera's shot hit the post. Vietnam finally confirmed victory after Thi Minh successfully executed the last penalty.

However, the achievement of fourth place is a separate history. It was the furthest journey of the U-16 Indonesian Women's National Team during its participation in the U-16 Women's AFF Cup.

In the previous three appearances (2009, 2017, and 2018), Indonesia has never passed the group stage. Meanwhile, in the 2019 edition, Garuda Pertiwi Muda did not participate.
