2025 World Championships: Ginting Early Home In The First Round

JAKARTA Anthony Sinisuka Ginting's men's singles were immediately eliminated in the first round of the 2025 Badminton World Championship (BWF World Championship 2025).

He had to remove his suitcase from Adidas Arena, Paris, France, after suffering a dramatic defeat of three games 18-21, 21-19, and 23-25 on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, WIB night.

This is Ginting's second defeat against Popov of a total of four of their competitive clashes. All the two defeats also occurred in the same place.

Earlier last year, Ginting lost their first against Popov when they met in the group stage of the Paris Olympics. At that time, both of them had three games too.

This year's World Championships is Ginting's fourth tournament in this year's calendar or third after a long absence since Malaysia Open 2025 due to shoulder problems.

Ginting said that he still had to undergo intensive care even though the problem with his shoulder had recovered and did not hurt anymore.

"From the matches I have played, starting from Japan, China and the World Championships, I feel that there are no obstacles or pain," he said.

The defeat in Paris has added to Ginting's poor record since the comeback. Earlier when he was down at the Japan and China Open, he also immediately went home in the first half.

Ginting is the first men's singles representative to be eliminated from the tournament. Previously, one ticket for the second half had already been secured by Jonatan Christie.
