Vinicius Junior's Contract Talks With Real Madrid Mandek

JAKARTA - Talks about Vinicius Jmennior's new contract at Real Madrid have stalled for weeks. The Brazilian's representative believes it makes no sense to accept the club's latest offer.

The 25-year-old has a contract until June 2027 and has a net income of around 17 million euros (around Rp322 billion) per season, including bonuses.

In May 2025, the two camps managed to narrow their differences in a meeting. According to ESPN reports, they felt the deal was close.

The striker's management hopes to increase his salary to 20 million euros (approximately IDR 378 billion) per season, with several variables that could increase the figure to 30 million euros (approximately IDR 568 billion).

However, the club's last offer was only 20 million euros, without an additional 10 million euros bonus.

As a result, the player's representatives believe the increase is too small and does not justify the extension of the three-season contract until 2030.

Vinicius, Fred Pena and Thassilo Soares agents, chose to wait and see the development of the 2025/2026 season, monitoring coach Xabi Alonso's plans for the Brazilian, before making a decision.

Alonso had considered backing up Vinicius in the 2025 Club World Cup semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain in July 2025 and playing with two attackers, before Trent Alexander-Arnold's last-minute withdrawal forced a change of plans.

Federico Valverde was then transferred to right-back and Vinicius maintained his position at the starting XI alongside Gonzalo Garcia and Kylian Mbappe.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid took the first step to renew Vinicius' contract in February 2025 even though the forward still has a two-year contract remaining.

Negotiations began earlier than usual, after it was revealed that the attacker was the target of the Saudi Arabian Pro League.

However, as ESPN reports, the Saudi Arabian club's interest in Vinicius has eased. There has been no further contact with Saudi Arabian clubs since December 2024 and representatives of Vinicius have now dismissed this possibility.

There are concerns from Vinicius side about the pressure the Spanish media may put on, with concerns that ongoing coverage of talks could have a negative impact on public opinion of the player.

Vinicius became runner-up for the 2024 Ballon d'Or and won the FIFA Player of the Year award in the same year.

However, he went through an inconsistent season in 2024/2025, scoring 11 goals in 30 appearances in La Liga so Real Madrid ended the season without winning a single trophy.
