Emma Raducanu Extends Negative Record Against Aryna Sabalenka, Losing In The Third Round Of The Cincinnati Open 2025

JAKARTA - Emma Raducanu was eliminated from the Cincinnati Open 2025 after a narrow loss to world number 1 tennis player, Aryna Sabalenka, in the third round.

The match on Monday, August 11, 2025, local time, was their second meeting this year.

Previously, Sabalenka won a thin victory over Raducanu in the third round of Wimbledon 2025.

The duel in Cincinnati also lasted no less stringently which took more than three hours. There were two tiebreaks that occurred with a final score of 7-6, 4-6, and 7-6 for Sabalenka.

"As I said at Wimbledon, I am very happy to see him (Raducanu) healthy - mentally and physically," Sabalenka said of Raducanu.

"Every time he shows improvement, I can see he returns to his best performance. I enjoy the fight against him. He's an amazing player," he said.

The England number 1 started the match quickly, winning its first break point in the opening two games, before Sabalenka hit back with his break and immediately equalized.

Sabalenka seemed to have controlled the match, breaking Raducanu's serve again on his way to winning four games in a row.

However, Raducanu managed to equalize to 4-4 and showed his strength to win the ninth game after a long pace.

The tight battle saw Sabalenka set up a tiebreak and he managed to withstand the strong resistance from the Briton to seize the first set in less than an hour.

Another tight match as both players maintained their serve at the start of the second set, but Raducanu managed to reverse the momentum by winning the break point in the seventh game to take the lead.

The English then closed the set with a charming ace to equalize.

Both players are only able to maintain their services in the third set. The eighth game which was amazingly generated 13 counts. Sabalenka was unable to convert four break points before Raducanu finally confirmed victory.

For the second time in the match, the set reached a tiebreak, with the second match point, Sabalenka qualified for the next round.

The world number 1 will meet Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the round of 16 after the Spaniard beat Taylor Townsend on the same day.

Meanwhile, Raducanu's trip to the third round of Cincinnati begins with defeating Olga Danilovic - the first win since former coach Rafael Nadal, Francis Roig, joined his team.
