Indonesia Hosts SEA U-18 & U-20 2025 Athletics Championships

The Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Menpora RI) Dito Ariotedjo received an audience from the Executive Board of the Indonesian Athletics Association (PB PASI) (doc. Kemenpora).

JAKARTA Indonesia will host 17th SEA U-18 and U-20 Athletics Championships 2025 or the Athletics Championships SEA U-18 and U-20.

The age group sports party is scheduled to take place on November 15' 18, 2025 at the Madya Stadium, Medan, North Sumatra.

The General Secretary of the Indonesian Athletics Association (PB PASI), Tigor M. Tanjung, said that this is the first time the U-20 category has been competed and approximately 250 athletes from 11 countries have participated.

"We chose the Medan Madya Stadium because it has international first grade standards so it is feasible for large events, even the equivalent of the Olympics," said Tigor in a statement received.

This championship has been regularly held since 2006. Indonesia previously hosted the same event in 2011.

In preparation for hosting this year, PB PASI has also held an audience with the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Menpora RI) Dito Ariotedjo.

Tigor asked for government support so that Indonesia can host the Asian age group in the future.

"We hope that there will be support so that Indonesia can apply for a bidding to host the 2027 U-18 Asian Championship, which will be attended by 45 member countries," he said.

The implementation of 17th SEA U-18 and U-20 Athletics Championships 2025 was welcomed positively by the Minister of Youth and Sports. He also supports the championship bid plan at the Asian level.

He said that organizing international events is an important momentum to show Indonesia's capacity in athletics.

"This is very good, apart from utilizing the venue, it is also an opportunity to measure the readiness of our young athletes at the regional level."

"I also support Indonesia to bid for the 2027 U-18 Asian Championships. This is important so that we are increasingly taken into account in the Asian athletic map," he said.
