JAKARTA - Barcelona president Joan Laporta revealed that his club is no longer chasing Liverpool winger Luis Diaz this summer after successfully signing Marcus Rashford.
Barcelona have just brought Rashford from Manchester United on loan at the transfer market this summer.
The deal ended long speculation about Barcelona's main target, Luis Diaz, who was previously the main target of the Catalan club.
"I like Luis D wayz, but bringing him in is very difficult because of his contract. However, I still thank you because he wants to join us," said Laportta, quoted by Mundo Deportivo on Friday, July 26.
According to an official report from Barcelona, Rashford joined the loan status for a full season until the summer of 2026, with a permanent purchase option of around 30 million euros (Rp 574 billion).
Rashford's move to Camp Nou came after Barcelona faced a stalemate in an attempt to sign Luis Diaz.
Liverpool has consistently rejected an offer for Diaz, setting a price of around 80-85 million euros, a figure that is considered too high given Barcelona's financial situation. In addition, Diaz is still under contract with Liverpool until 2027, making negotiations even more difficult.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick is said to have given the green light to sign Rashford after deciding to stop the hunt for Diaz.
Flick is believed to have seen great potential in Rashford to return to his best form, especially after the player lost place in Manchester United's main squad under coach Ruben Amorim.
"I'm very happy to be joining Barcelona. It's like a dream come true. I want to help the team win trophies and feel like I'm at home," Rashford said after officially joining, as quoted from the club's official website.

This move is also a strategic step to overcome the club's financial limitations, with a loan scheme that is considered minimal risk.
