Guardiola: Grealish's Absence Is Not Because Of His Behavior

JAKARTA - Pep Guardiola has rejected the assumption that Jack Grealish's absence from the Manchester City squad has something to do with his off-field behavior.

Grealish has been expelled from the squad for the 2025 Club World Cup and has been granted permission to discuss his move from the Etihad Stadium with other clubs.

Guardiola has questioned the midfielder's performance in past training.

However, the Spaniard insists that the only reason Grealish has been on the side of the team over the past two years is due to the performances of other players, including Jeremy Doku and Savinho.

"The only reason he (Grealish) didn't play was me, not because he was wrong or whatever."

"He's a top player, but the players have to compete with each other. Last season Doku was amazing in many games and Savinho stepped forward for his first season," said Guardiola.

Grealish still has a two-year contract remaining at Manchester City. He has been linked with Premier League clubs, including Everton, Tottenham, and Aston Villa.

Bayern Munich and Napoli are among the European clubs showing interest. Manchester City prefers to negotiate a permanent transfer, but there is acceptance that the 29-year-old may have to leave on loan at first.

"I want the best for Jack, his partner, his children, his family. I don't know what's going to happen now."

"I don't doubt Jack's quality. His quality is always there, but his appearance when he won the treble may not appear," said Guardiola.
