JAKARTA Indonesia is ready to hold the Sambo World Championships titled Youth and Junior World Sambo Championships 2025.

The sporting event is scheduled to take place on October 1-6, 2025 at JSI Resort Mega Mendung, Bogor, West Java. Approximately 60 countries will participate.

Chairman of the Central Executive Board of the Sambo Indonesia Association (PP Persambi), Krisna Bayu, revealed that Indonesia was chosen to host this World Championship because of the long struggle to carry out international diplomacy.

"This event is a golden opportunity for our young athletes to compete at the global level while building Indonesian sports sincerely," he said.

Youth and Junior World Sambo Championships 2025 plans to compete a total of 35 classes, 14 classes for the Youth group (16-18 years) and 21 classes for the junior group (18-20 years), respectively.

Persambi estimates that approximately 60-80 member states of the Sambo International Federation (FIAS) will take part in this event. However, there is still a possibility of changing the number of participants because there are still remaining.

"Talking about the countries that participate, there must be a FIAS report. Indonesia does not accept registration because it is directly an international federation. This means that being a host only carries out international regulations," said Bayu.

This is the first time this prestigious event has been held in Southeast Asia. This shows global trust in Indonesia to host major sporting events.

Bayu said that this event was a crucial momentum and opened up opportunities for young Indonesian athletes to compete directly with world champions.

"At the same time, it is a place to search for new superior seeds in line with the Government's program to regenerate sustainable national athletes," he said.

Indonesia is also confirmed to field sambo athletes in this event. Persambi is currently preparing athletes, including holding a junior National Championship (Kejurnas) next month in Padang, West Sumatra.
