Menpora Ensures Indonesia Is Ready To Host Sudirman Cup And Thomas & Uber

Menpora Dito Ariotedjo promised Indonesia to be ready to hold the 2027 Sudirman Cup and Thomas & Uber 2028 (doc. Kemenpora).

JAKARTA - The Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Menpora RI), Dito Ariotedjo, ensures that Indonesia is very ready to host the prestigious badminton events of the Sudirman Cup and Thomas & Uber.

Indonesia has not hosted these team tournaments for a very long time. Thus, the golden opportunity offered by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) was reluctant to be missed by Dito.

"To be sure, we have confirmed that we are interested and ready," said Dito.

The President of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Khunying Pamama Leeswadtrakul, on the sidelines of the Indonesia Open 2025 earlier this month, made an offer to Indonesia to host important events above.

The offer was submitted by Khunying after reviewing the Indonesia Arena facility with Dito. The BWF number one person assessed that the venue has great potential to hold a big badminton tournament.

Dito said that there are a number of technical obstacles that must be addressed if the Indonesia Arena is later selected to become a match venue.

"If the Indonesia Arena is chosen, of course there will be additional supporting facilities. We will submit them according to BWF standards," said Dito.

The plan is for Indonesia to host the 2027 edition of the Sudirman Cup and the 2028 edition of the Thomas & Uber Cup. Both events have not been held in Indonesia for a long time.

Indonesia last hosted the Sudirman Cup in its first edition in 1989. As for Thomas & Uber, it last took place in Indonesia in 2008.
