PSG Vs. Inter Milan: Marquinhos Don't Want To Fail Again On Second Chance

JAKARTA - Defender Marquinhos became one of the Paris Saint-Germain players who failed to lift the trophy in the 2020 Champions League final. When he returned to competing in the final with the same club against Inter Milan, Marquinhos did not want to fail on this second occasion.

The final match at the Allianz Arena Stadium, Munich, Sunday, June 1, 2025 at 02.00 am WIB is a moment of retaliation for Marquinhos. Together with President Kimpembe, he is two players who still survive at PSG.

Both of them were part of the PSG squad that competed in the 2020 final against Bayern Munich. However, they failed to fulfill the expectations of holding the broad-early trophy for the first time after losing 1-0.

After that failure, PSG overhauled the squad and then dismissed coach Thomas Tuchel in December 2020. The replacement of the coach has never brought Les Parisiens back to the Champions League final.

When other players came in and out, one of them was Kylian Mbappe who left for Real Madrid, Marquinhos and Kimpembe remained part of PSG.

Even Marquinhos is the player who has survived PSG the longest. Since being recruited from AS Roma in 2013, this Brazilian national team defender was irreplaceable while fortifying PSG's defense. During the 12 years of the club, he has won Ligue 1 France 10 times and won eight times the French Cup.

Together with this 31st-year-old defender, PSG dominated French football. He even brought the team to win the League Cup six times and win the French Super Cup or Trophee des Champions eight times.

However, PSG has never achieved success in European competitions. They only advanced to the final once and had to admit Bayern's superiority.

"We were at the top and have been at the bottom. Now, we have a good opportunity to create history. If we become champions, of course this is a big achievement for clubs and players," said Marquinhos.

"This is my second chance to reach the Champions League final. I make sure we will not give up without a fight," he said.

"We're going to play all out because we know it's a tough game. Moreover, we've been fighting to reach the final," said Marquinhos.

"We have made every effort to reach the Champions League final. This season could be our best moment. So, we want to bring this trophy back to Paris and we can celebrate it with fans," he said again.

PSG is showing their best performance in the Champions League this season. On their way to the final, they managed to overcome Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Interestingly, Liverpool and Arsenal occupy the seeds to win trophies. However, PSG was able to overcome them. This is what makes the Qatari company-funded club the seed in the final match

"My motivation is to win the Champions League for the first time for PSG. This will be a gift I present to the citizens of Paris, the city and the club," said Enrique.
