JAKARTA The DKI Jakarta Provincial Management (Pengprov) held a second phase of regional selection (Selection) as part of preparations for the 2028 National Sports Week (PON).
The selection was held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the Tifosi Sport Center, Jalan Raden Inten, East Jakarta.
There are more than 50 young female and male athletes from various schools and universities in Jakarta and its surroundings participating in the selection.
The selection participants were athletes born from 1998 to 2010. This age range is considered to meet the requirements and potential to be fostered as part of the DKI Jakarta regional training camp team.
The general chairman of DKI Jakarta's Korfball, Adi Dwryptono, explained that this selection was a strategic step to maintain DKI Jakarta's achievements, which previously had great success in becoming the overall champion at the 2024 Aceh-Sumut PON.

"We are grateful to have started this process early. Currently, it has entered the second stage. There are 50 athletes that we have selected and this is an important step in filtering out the best talents to enter long-term training," said Adi.
In addition to preparing athletes to maintain achievements in PON, this selection also affirms DKI Jakarta's commitment to contributing to the development of this mixed sport in Indonesia.
Adi said that in recent years the development of kofball sports in Indonesia has been very encouraging. This sport, he said, has spread to many educational institutions, both secondary and college.
"However, we are still lacking in terms of socialization. Therefore, apart from selection, we are also taking advantage of this momentum to promote korfball to the people of Jakarta and nationally," he said.
Further selection and intensive training will continue to be carried out by the DKI Jakarta Korfball Provincial Pengprov until a core team is formed for the 2028 PON which will take place in West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara.
Adi also wants the media to be able to help play an important role by supporting the dissemination of information about the corfball so that it can get wider attention from the public.
"We need media support to promote this sport on an ongoing basis. We hope that the kofball can continue to grow and achieve achievements not only at the national level, but also internationally," he said.
When appearing at the 2024 Aceh-Sumut PON, the DKI Jakarta Korfball team managed to bring home two gold medals in the K8 and K4-1 numbers and one bronze medal in the K4-2 number.
