The Indonesian National Team Brings 29 Players To Fight Australia, Egy Maulana Disadvantaged

The Indonesian national team brought 29 players to face Australia in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers (VOI/Ferry Tri Adi Sasono).

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team will face Australia in the 2026 World Cup Qualification on March 20, 2025. Patrick Kluiver brought 29 players to Sydney.

The Garuda squad will be strengthened by 29 players including Emil Audero, Joey Pelupessy, and Dean James. However, that number has decreased from the previous 30 names. You see, Egy Maulana Vikri had to be left injured.

"So, they entered the slot of 30 players. Unfortunately, Egy (Maulana Vikri) was injured, so 29 (players) departed (to Australia). Later they will be re-elected as 23 players," said PSSI General Chair (Ketum) Erick Thohir, in his statement on Friday, March 14, 2025.

Erick Thohir also ensured that Emil, Joey, and Dean were ready and able to help the Indonesian national team against Australia. However, regarding the technical decision on how the three will appear later, he left it to Patrick Kluiver.

"Yes, three naturalizations are confirmed to be available against Australia. Of course the registration is 29 players, meaning 30 but one injury. Yes, of course the election depends on the coaching that decides," he said.

Outside of Egy's absence, coach Patrick Kluivert brought the best ammunition on his trip to Australia. Experienced players such as Jay Idzes, Calvin Verdok, Kevin Diks, Maarten Paes, to Thom Haye joined the team.

Then, debutant candidates such as Ole Romeny and Septian Bagaskara were also brought to the Land of Kangaroo. The presence of these new players made the depth of the Indonesian national team squad even better.

The Indonesian national team currently occupies the third position in the Group C standings for the Third Round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification with a collection of six points. The Red-White Team is below Japan and Australia.
