Arne Slot Admits He Is Very Emotional So He Was Given A Red Card At The Everton Vs Liverpool Match

Arne Slot admitted that emotions peaked after the match Everton vs Liverpool (Instagram/@liverpoolfc).

JAKARTA - Liverpool manager Arne Slot has admitted that he regretted his behavior which caused him to be issued after the final whistle of the Derby Merseyside match on Thursday, February 13, 2025.

He said he would do it differently at a later time.

"What happened was a five-time extension that ended eight times, emotions took control of me."

"If I can do it differently, I hope to do it differently at another time," Slot said at a press conference on Friday, February 14, 2025.

This is the first time Slot has spoken about the incident. He was unable to give a press conference after the match against Everton because of Premier League regulations regarding the coach's suspension.

"A lot of things in extra time made me quite emotional. There was a two-minute VAR incident where I thought maybe it could be a foul and then it could be offside."

"A lot of things happen, but as I said, it's not wise to discuss every incident," said Arne Slot.

Meanwhile, when asked about Curtis Jones' actions - the midfielder pushed Abdoulaye Doucoure after seeing him interacting with traveling Liverpool fans - Slot said he admired his spirit.

However, he will talk to Jones about a better way to deal with the situation.

"I really like that he's defending the team, but there's another way for the team and fans to do that. I'll talk to him about it."

"The same applies to me. I should have acted differently after the game too."

"However, it's also an emotional sport and sometimes individuals make wrong decisions and that's what I'm sure to do," said the Dutchman.

Doucoure and Jones were also given a red card by referee Michael Oliver, just like Liverpool assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff.

Despite the chaos, both Liverpool and Everton condemned the racist abuse Doucoure received after the match. They described it as despicable and that it would not be tolerated.
