Indonesia Masters 2025: Jonatan Semifinals

Jonathan Christie stepped into the semifinals of the Indonesia Masters 2025 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA Jonathan Christie reached the second semifinals in a row after successfully passing the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Masters 2025.

He fought back from the defeat of the first game to beat the Japanese men's singles, Kenta Nishimoto, with a score of 17-21, 21-13, and 21-11 on Friday, January 24, 2025, evening WIB.

"Praise God, I can go back to the semifinals, especially at Istora, at home. This is a moment that makes me very happy," said Jonathan after the match.

This is Jonathan's third straight win over his opponent. Overall, he is now ahead winning 10-8 against Kenta.

This is their first clash after more than a year since the French Open in October 2023. At that time Jonathan managed to beat Kenta in two straight games.

"It wasn't easy at first. Kenta Nishimoto was one of the good players. It was seen and we know what Japanese players work ethic," said Jonantan.

Jonathan last week also reached the semifinals at the 2025 India Open. His journey was then intercepted by the Danish men's singles, Viktor Axlesen.

Jonathan is the second representative of Indonesia to reach the semifinals of the Indonesia Masters 2025. He followed in the footsteps of the mixed doubles pair Rinov Rivaldy/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati.

The dual and women's singles pair Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi and Putri Kusuma Wardani felt different. The two representatives failed to continue their journey.

Their defeat made the women's singles and doubles no longer have representatives at the Indonesia Masters 2025. In the women's singles, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, who is targeted to be the champion, also had to withdraw because she was not fit due to the flu.
