Juventus Draw Again, Thiago Motta Highlights Club Brugge's Defense

JAKARTA - Juventus drew again when they competed in the Champions League. In the duel against Club Brugge at Jan Breydel Stadium, Bruges, Wednesday, January 22, 2025 in the morning WIB, Juve was arrested by Brugge 0-0. Coach Thiago Motta highlighted Brugge's strong defense which made it difficult for Juve to score.

Juve have played 30 matches in various competitions this season. As a result, more than half of Juve's matches ended in a draw.

The match against Brugge actually gave the Bianconeri a chance to win. Moreover, they have very good capital because they managed to beat the tough opponent AC Milan 2-0 in the big match Serie A Italy.

The victory ended Juve's draw trend. Despite breaking into the top four and being in the Champions League zone, Juve was finally thrown back and placed fifth after being shifted by Lazio who won 3-0 over Hellas Verona.

However, Juve remained optimistic about continuing this positive trend when they visited Brugge's headquarters. However, Juve, who tried to appear offensive by pressing the opponent, was unable to score a goal.

The draw left Juve stuck in the Champions League playoffs zone. They are ranked 14th with 12. If they fail to break into the top eight to get an automatic ticket to the last 16, then Juve will have to fight in the playoffs.

Likewise Brugge, who will play the round because he is ranked 17. The club, which is currently ranked second in the Belgian League, only has 11.

In that match, Motta actually fielded all the front players. They started the match by relying on Samuel Mbangula, Nico Gonzalez and Timothy Weah. But none of them could tear the hosts' goal.

In the second half, Kenan Yildiz and Francisco Conceicao appeared to support Dusan Vlahovic. The result is the same. Juve still couldn't break into former Belgian national team goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Juve did excel in possession throughout the game. But La Vecchi Totala had few chances and they failed to convert it into a goal.

The best chance was obtained by midfielder Manuel Locatelli. But his shot was saved by Mignolet. This is the only attempt from Juve to break into the host's goal.

The goalless score lasted until the game was over. Motta also highlighted Brugge's defense which he admitted was difficult to penetrate by Juve's forward. According to him, the club is difficult to beat when playing at home.

"All the teams playing here [Kandang Club Brugge] always have difficulties. They defended very well," Motta was quoted as saying by Sky Sport.

"We should have picked up better results. It's just that we still respect the opponent because they are indeed difficult opponents. Besides, we couldn't create many chances to win the game," he said again.

Motta also mentioned the lack of sharpness of forwards. Even though they have fielded all players in that sector, they still have difficulty scoring goals.

"We were finally able to field players who previously suffered injuries. Those who played in front were able to be deployed. We started with Mbangula, Nico Gonzalez and Weah. Then Yildiz, Vlahovic and Francisco Conceicao were played," said Motta.

"They should be able to give more. Our front players should be able to contribute to the team," he said.

Juve can still hope to enter the top eight to get tickets automatically to the knockout round. But they face Benfica's tough opponent who lost Barcelona 5-4 in the last match of the preliminary match, January 29, 2025. Meanwhile, Brugge visited Manchester City headquarters.
