The Duo Duo Duo Of The Indonesian National Team In Eredivisie

JAKARTA - Two players from the Indonesian National Team, Eliano Reijnders and Calvin Verdonk, clashed at the 2024/2025 Eredivisie.

The second duel took place in the 18th week of the Eredivisie when PEC Zwolle hosted NEC Nijmegen at MAC3PARK, Sunday, January 12, 2025.

Both of them appeared full so that their fight was inevitable throughout the match. You see, Eliano was installed as a right-wing defender, while Verdonk filled the left-wing defender post.

The match led to a narrow NEC 1-0 victory over the hosts. Koki Ogawa scored the single goal in the 23rd minute.

After the match, Calvin Verdonk uploaded a photo with Eliano struggling on the field.

"Forming a small win, those are steps to build mountains. Thank you all for your support," Verdok wrote accompanying his photo upload on Instagram.

The result makes PEC Zwolle not start the calendar year 2025 with the desired results.

Before the match, a moment of silence was carried out in memory of the death of Meine Breemhaar. He is the Chairman of the Foundation Council and the Director of MAC3PARK, the name of the stadium.

PEC had to play without ZendeLAR and Younes Namli, both sidelined by a groin injury, joining Sherel Floranus. Worse yet, Ody Velanas is absent due to illness.

In the middle of the first half, NEC opened the scoring. A through ball from Ouaissa was fired by Koki Ogawa.

Soon after, PEC had two good chances. Damian van der Haar's shot from the edge of the penalty area narrowly went wide of NEC Nijmegen's goal.

Then, Dylan Vente was able to head the ball towards goal after Anouar El Azzouzi and Dylan Mbayo, but Robin Roefs made a brilliant save.

After halftime, Thierry Lutonda came in as part of PEC's effort to find an equalizer.

This resulted in more pressure from Zwolle against the enemy, while the visitors stalked to counterattack.

Opportunities came from Davy van den Berg who tried remotely, but he couldn't worry goalkeeper Roefs.

Filip Krastev had a great chance with his header nearly twenty minutes of normal time, but Roefs prevented an equalizer.

Not long after that, Krastev took a free kick, but the ball went wide.

With Thiomas Buitink and Ryan Thomas as new powers up front, Johnny Janssen showed all his abilities. However, the expected equalizer did not come that led to defeat.

Meanwhile, PEC will host PSV Eindhoven on January 18, 2025. Then, NEC will host Fortuna Sittard a day later at the Eredivisie.

Both teams are currently still at the bottom of the Eredivisie standings this season. NEC is better at 12th (20 points), while PEC is at 14th (17 points).
