When Anies Is Sure That His Subordinates Are Working To Deal With Floods, Call It Low Tide, Not Just Because Of Gravity

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan believes his staff is always ready to deal with Jakarta's flood problems, especially when entering the rainy season like now.

This is evident from his statement which revealed that the receding of floods in puddles in Jakarta was not solely caused by the force of gravity. There are efforts to control the receding water there.

"When an area is inundated, usually it can take up to 3-4 days, on that day all the firefighters are deployed. Then mobile pumps are deployed, water sprinkling tanks are deployed to draw water and the receding of the forest is solely due to gravity, but because it is pulled by the pump," he said. Anies on Sunday, October 31st.

Anies said that the DKI Provincial Government is working on management, scenarios, and simulations in dealing with floods. So, the efforts made when the flood-hit can immediately run well.

He said the DKI Provincial Government had mapped three triggers for Jakarta's flooding, namely the tidal wave on the north coast, the flow of water in 13 rivers from upstream, and heavy rain in the city.

When these three challenges occurred, said Anies, each officer immediately carried out their respective duties, according to the scenario that had been prepared.

"We have experienced in January 2020 and also February this year, when these 3 fronts appeared at the same time. So, first, we have prepared a scenario for the division of tasks, it has been prepared. Who does what, so that when something happens, we can distribute the work well," said Anies.

"That's why when last February, when the rain exceeded our capacity, then there was automatic inundation and flooding, then the target to be able to dry it could be achieved. Why? Because all resources were mobilized," he continued.

Meanwhile, regarding the handling of refugees, Anies admitted that he had also prepared evacuation points along with the implementation of health protocols. Even so, he hopes that the Jakarta flood will not happen.

"We hope that this rainy season, hopefully, we will be kept away from flooding. Because the amount of rain is beyond our control. But if the rainfall exceeds the threshold, then we have a target to finish it as soon as possible," concluded Anies.
