MEDAN - The North Sumatra Provincial Government responded positively to President Joko Widodo's policy of lowering the price of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test to Rp. 300 thousand.

"I really support this policy," said North Sumatra Governor Edy Rahmayadi in Medan, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, October 26.

He said the reduction in the price of PCR tests would help economic recovery efforts.

With increasingly affordable prices, he said, PCR tests will support the control of the COVID-19 pandemic through testing and tracking activities.

"With the decrease in the price of PCR tests, the economic journey will increase," he said.

However, Gubsu Edy Rahmayadi still appealed to all North Sumatran people to continue to limit unnecessary mobility, in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"With the price of PCR being lowered, it doesn't mean that people flock here and there, it's not like that," he said.

Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had asked for the price of the PCR test to be reduced to Rp. 300 thousand and valid for 3x24 hours for plane trips.

This policy was carried out following the mandatory use of PCR tests for the requirements for aircraft transportation modes which have received a lot of criticism lately.
