JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries is preparing a roadmap for the management of the national marine and fisheries sector based on the blue economy principle for the Republic of Indonesia.

Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said KKP was preparing a road map as a reference for the development of the marine and fisheries sector for the next 25 years or until 2045, which is in accordance with the blue economy principle.

Trenggono said, as an initial step in implementing the blue economy, the KKP will launch a measured fishing policy in 2022.

Through this policy, the KKP regulates the fishing area in WPPNRI in a zone and quota system intended for industry, local fishermen and hobbyists.

Then, he continued, the aquaculture sub-sector will revitalize traditional ponds to become more modern and integrated.

He said that of the approximately 247 thousand hectares of traditional ponds currently available, 14 thousand hectares of them will be revitalized so that they are more productive and the process is environmentally friendly.

In addition, he said, for aquaculture commodities that will be boosted productivity are shrimp, lobster, crab and seaweed, all of which are superior exports.

His party will also build cultivation villages based on local wisdom to alleviate poverty and protect local fishery commodities of high economic value from extinction.

"2022 will be a milestone, where we will do our best to implement three KKP breakthrough programs, namely measured capture, export-oriented cultivation, and cultivation villages based on local wisdom. In this case, KKP is preparing a blue print long-term development until 2045," said the minister.
