Reluctant To Import, Anies Chooses To Buy Cattle From The NTT Provincial Government For Consumption By Jakarta Residents

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has again collaborated with other regions. Now, Anies has signed a beef purchase contract with the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Provincial Government.

This collaboration is realized by the existence of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between PD Dharma Jaya and PT Flobamor (NTT Province BUMD) in the context of fulfilling good quality beef and live cattle from Kupang.

Anies said, the need for food in Jakarta is quite large and needs to be supplied from outside areas. Then, Anies saw that the quality of the cattle bred in NTT was quite good.

"So this cow from NTT weighs big and the meat is of superior quality, good quality. Then it can be used as raw material for needs in Jakarta. In essence, the quality of meat from Kupang is among the best compared to imported meat," said Anies at City Hall. DKI, Central Jakarta, Monday, October 26.

Anies said he wanted to reduce dependence on imported cattle from abroad. Although access to import gates entering Jakarta is quite easy, according to him, it is better for the capital city to absorb domestic production.

"Hopefully this will replace meat or food taken from imports. For us, in Jakarta, we feel that it is better for us to get domestic production rather than take from imports," said Anies.

Director of PD Dharma Jaya Raditya Endra Budiman said that the current demand for cattle consumption in Jakarta reaches 6,000 tons per month. So far, 95 percent of beef supply in Jakarta is still imported from abroad.

With this cooperation in purchasing cattle, said Raditya, at least it can reduce the purchase of cattle by up to 1,000 tons per month from abroad.

"Hopefully we can gradually increase it for local consumption. So, indeed we do not rule out the possibility of supply from other regions," said Raditya.
