PALEMBANG - Dozens of houses in five villages in Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra were badly damaged and some were razed to the ground by a tornado. The personnel of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Ogan Ilir Social Service carried out data collection on the number of residents affected by the disaster to take mitigation measures,

South Sumatra BPBD Head of Emergency Division Ansori said the worst conditions occurred in Sungai Lebung Village, where 16 houses were razed to the ground and four were heavily damaged.

In Sungai Lebung Ulu Village, three houses were razed to the ground, in Sungai Ondok Village one house was razed to the ground, in Harimau Tandang Village four houses were heavily damaged, and in Maju Jaya Village two houses were heavily damaged.

Launching Antara, Sunday, October 24, most of the houses that were destroyed were stilt houses that stood in a swampy area in the South Pemulutan District, so the mitigation process took a long time, since the incident on Saturday, October 23 evening until now.

His party has prepared assistance in the form of logistics for the victims and hopes that there are no casualties in the incident.

Based on the results of the analysis conducted with Climatology and Geophysics since the last few months, it was found that the potential for disasters in Ogan Ilir Regency is very large, especially hurricanes.

To eliminate the impact of the disaster, the community must increase their vigilance. The disaster is estimated to occur in October 2021 until the first quarter of 2022. For this reason, it is hoped that the local government will be active in reminding the community in their area.
