Minister Of Religion Appreciates Islamic Boarding School's Efforts To Deal With The COVID-19 Pandemic

JAKARTA - Minister of Religion, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, appreciated the efforts of Islamic boarding schools in preventing and tackling the COVID-19 pandemic. The Minister of Religion said that Islamic boarding schools were proven to be able to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic with various limited facilities.

According to him, Islamic boarding schools have the main capital in facing challenges, namely the tradition and prudence taught by the Kiai to the students.

The example of the Kiai contributes to encouraging students and the general public to undergo COVID-19 vaccination.

"We should appreciate the experiences of several Islamic boarding schools that have succeeded in making efforts to prevent, control, and handle the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic", Yaqut said, quoted by Antara, Friday, October 22.

He said on the commemoration of Santri Day 2021, Islamic boarding schools received a gift from President Joko Widodo in the form of Presidential Regulation Number 82 of 2021 concerning Funding for the Implementation of Islamic Boarding Schools.

The presidential regulation, among others, regulates the provision of pesantren endowment funds for efforts to improve the quality of human resources through pesantren education.

Two years ago, on the anniversary of Santri Day 2019, the students received a gift in the form of the ratification of Law Number 18 of 2019 concerning Islamic Boarding Schools.

"The Pesantren Law and the Presidential Regulation on Funding for Islamic Boarding Schools are a form of state recognition, affirmation, and facilitation for Islamic boarding schools. In the future, Islamic boarding schools are expected to continue to develop educational functions, da'wah functions, and also community empowerment functions", said the Minister of Religion.
