Anies Allows 100 Percent Capacity Of Public Transportation Passengers, Epidemiologist: Risk Of COVID-19 Transmission

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has allowed public transportation in the capital city to operate with a capacity of 100 percent of passengers when implementing PPKM Level 2.

Epidemiologist from Australia's Griffith University, Dicky Budiman, considers easing full capacity on public transport very risky for COVID-19 transmission, even though the case has been sloping.

"Transportation facilities are opened to their original state like 100 percent. In my observation, this is risky and there is a big risk of contagion of COVID-19," said Dicky to VOI, Friday, October 22.

Anies needs to realize that public transportation, especially land, is one of the modes that involves many people. Especially in Jakarta, which is a place to meet many people from various regions, where there are various interventions to handle the pandemic.

"Remember, those who use land transportation in Jakarta can also come from outside Jabodetabek, even outside Java," said Dicky.

Therefore, Dicky said that the mandatory provisions to continue to maintain capacity, maintain social distance, as well as maintain the quality of circulation and ventilation are a must during the pandemic.

However, Dicky said that does not mean that the passenger transportation capacity will continue to be tightened as before by 50 percent. However, the opening must be done gradually, such as 80 percent.

"Even though the PPKM level is 1 in all areas in the Jabodetabek area, the restrictions are very important in order to keep the pandemic condition under control," he explained.

For information, Anies issued Governor Decree Number 1245 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Level 2 COVID-19 Community Activity Restrictions.

In the Governor's Decree, Anies stipulates that activities on transportation modes such as public transportation, mass transportation, taxis, rental vehicles, and motorcycle taxis are enforced with a maximum capacity setting of 100 percent with the implementation of health protocols.
