JAMBI - A Sumatran tiger (Phantera tigris sumatrae) that pounced on two residents of Merangin Regency, Jambi to death, has been arrested by the Joint Police Team and the Jambi Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA).

The Sumatran tiger that pounced on residents of Merangin Regency was caught using traps set by the Jambi BKSDA and Merangin Police in Air Batu Village, Merangin Regency, said Merangin Police Chief, AKBP Irwan Andy Purnamawan, quoting Antara, Saturday, October 16.

The tiger, which had taken its life, was caught in a trap at around 15.00 WIB and was evacuated by the BKSDA and the Sungai Manau Police, Merangin.

Merangin Police Chief, AKBP Irywan Andy added that the tiger will be taken to the BKSDA animal shelter in Jambi City and is now on its way from Air Batu Village to Jambi.

Previously, the Merangin Police had coordinated with the Jambi BKSDA to set traps to catch tigers, which recently caused a stir by pouncing on two residents of Renah Pembarap, Merangin Regency, Jambi.

Irwan Andy said the Jambi BKSDA set a tiger trap around the location of the incident in Air Batu Village, Renah Pembarap District, Merangin Regency and the tiger managed to enter the trap.

The last victim on Wednesday (13/10), a young man named Abu Bakar (20) died after being attacked by a tiger in Bukit Tamenit, Air Baru Village, Renah Pembarap District, Merangin Regency at around 17.00 WIB.

The poor young man was attacked by a Sumatran tiger while looking for a cellular phone signal with his three friends, where the victim and his three friends went to Tamenit hill in Air Batu Village, Renah Pembarab District, Merangin and when they arrived at the location the victim sat on the side of the road facing the forest bushes.

"While playing the game, suddenly a tiger came from in front of the victim and bit the victim's left hand and took him into the forest," said AKBP Irwan Andy Purnamawan.
