BALI - The Bali Province Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that so far three people have died due to a 4.8 magnitude tectonic earthquake, which was located on land at a distance of 8 kilometers northwest of Karangasem Regency on Saturday, October 16 at around 04.18 WITA. .

"There are two people who died in Bangli Regency and one person died from Karangasem Regency," said the Head of BPBD Bali Province, I Made Rentin confirmed from Denpasar, Antara.

In addition, the earthquake with a depth of 10 kilometers also caused seven people to suffer fractures in Karangasem Regency.

"The information we received until 08.15 WITA, in Karangasem Regency, for one person who died was still in the evacuation stage from the ruins of the building and seven people with broken bones had been successfully evacuated to the nearest puskesmas and Karangasem Hospital," he said.

For the impact of the shock in the Bangli Regency, said Rentin, two residents who died named Ni Kadek Wahyuni (25) and L (8) have been evacuated to the local health center.

"Four residents who were buried by building materials were rescued by the SAR team, while the other four managed to evacuate independently," he said.

The identities of the survivors included Made Mudawati (50), Novitasari (17), Dede Solikin (28), Ni Putu Wahyuni (28), D (4) and an eight-month-old baby.

In Bangli Regency, there were three landslide points from Bukit Abang, thus hampering the evacuation process via land access. The SAR team used the lake access for the evacuation process.

"The Karangasem and Bangli Regency BPBDs are still updating data at the scene. Likewise, the damage data is still at the local BPBD data collection stage," said Rentin, who is also the Secretary of the Bali Province COVID-19 Handling Task Force.

Meanwhile, based on a written statement by the Head of the Denpasar BMKG Regional III, Agus Wahyu Raharjo, he stated that the tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8, the epicenter was located at coordinates 8.32° South Latitude; 115.45° East Longitude, or precisely located on land at a distance of 8 kilometers northwest of Karangasem, Bali at a depth of 10 kilometers.

"By taking into account the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a shallow earthquake caused by local fault activity," he said.
