3 Students Positive For COVID-19, Disdikpora Gunungkidul Stops Learning Face-to-face At SMPN 2 Panggang

GUNUNGKIDUL - The Education, Youth and Sports Office of Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, has temporarily suspended face-to-face learning at the State Junior High School 2 Panggang. The reason is that there are three students who have been confirmed to have COVID-19.

"It is true that there are three positive COVID-19 students. To anticipate the spread of COVID-19 in the school environment, we have stopped face-to-face learning (PTM) at the junior high school until the situation is conducive," said the Head of the Middle School Division of the Education, Youth and Sports Office ( Disdikpora) Gunungkidul Tijan quoted by Antara, Thursday, October 14.

He said the case began with a student experiencing symptoms of illness. After being examined, he was confirmed to have COVID-19. They suspect the student was infected while at home.

The Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling COVID-19 at the sub-district level together with the Panggang Health Center directly tracked students who had close contact with students who were confirmed to have COVID-19. The results of the tracking, the officer noted that there were two other students who were confirmed to be COVID-19

"There are a total of three students who have tested positive for COVID-19. There is a possibility that the student was infected at home. The three students are currently in isolation," he said.

Tijan said that until now, only SMP Negeri 2 Panggang had been terminated by PTM until an undetermined time limit, while other schools continued to carry out limited PTM as usual.

"The temporary closure only applies to schools where cases are found, while other schools have no cases, so they may carry out PTM. However, we hope that the COVID-19 task force at the school level must be proactive in handling COVID-19 if there are students or educators who positive," he said.

Previously, the Head of the Gunung Kidul Health Service, Dewi Irawaty, said that in Gunung Kidul, a cluster of Islamic boarding schools appeared in Karangmojo District, where 17 students were confirmed to have COVID-19.

"We have asked 17 COVID-19 students to self-isolate," he said.
