Illegal Access Conspiracy From Sumatra Arrested, Stolen Rp2 Billion From 14 BTPN Customers

JAKARTA - The police uncovered an illegal access case that used the name BTPN (National Pension Savings Bank). In which, 14 BTPN customers became victims with a total loss of Rp2 billion.

"Of these 14 victims (losses) are around Rp. 2 billion," said Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Yusri Yunus, to reporters, Wednesday, October 13.

This illegal access case, said Yusri, started when the victims complained that their account balances were drained. So make a complaint to the bank.

"The victims reported and made complaints regarding the taking of the genius account which resulted in the transfer of his account to this suspect," Yusri told reporters, Wednesday, October 13.

The complaint continues with a police report (LP). So, on the basis of the report the police conducted an investigation.

From the results of the investigation, the police arrested two perpetrators with the initials O and D in South Sumatra. However, there are still two people whose whereabouts are still being sought. From the arrests of the two perpetrators, it was revealed the mode used in the illegal access action. The perpetrators launched their actions by calling customers and pretending to be bank staff.

"The suspect claimed to be a staff member of the BTPN bank or a genius staff," said Yusri.

After the victim is deceived, the perpetrator asks for an OTP (one-time password) code. The reason is to register the victim at thejenius.login.site. In fact, it was all just a ruse.

"After the perpetrator got the account from the customer's genius. Then the perpetrator took over all the accounts belonging to the customer," said Yusri.

With the arrest of the perpetrators, they are charged with Article 30 jucto Article 46 and Article 32 jucto Article 48 of the Electronic Information and Transaction Law.
