JAKARTA - Head of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) Dian Ediana Rae received a visit from the United States (US) Ambassador to Indonesia Sung Kim.

During the meeting, US Ambassador Sung Kim appreciated the PPATK for collaborating with various US government agencies in preventing and eradicating the Crime of Money Laundering (TPPU) and Terrorism Financing (TPPT).

The head of PPATK said that so far there has been cooperation between PPATK and the US Government for handling cases, including those related to the Business Email Compromise (BEC).

"I hope that the existing cooperation can continue to be improved, among others, in the exchange of information and technical assistance related to the handling of ML and TPPT as well as careful and fast handling of narcotics cases, and other transnational criminal acts, as well as TPPT," said Dian quoted by Antara, Tuesday, October 12.

US Ambassador Sung Kim said his party also supports Indonesia in its efforts to prevent and eradicate money laundering and money laundering in Indonesia.

''In the future, it is hoped that the cooperation with PPATK will be stronger considering that law enforcement is one of the priorities of US foreign cooperation. We will also support Indonesia's efforts to become a member of the Financial Action 2 Task Force (FATF),'' said Kim, who has served as Ambassador to South Korea and the Philippines.

Ambassador Kim also appreciated the cooperation and coordination between related institutions by using a special information exchange platform (SIPENDAR) in accelerating the detection of terrorism suspects from the flow of funds used. "We are also ready to support and cooperate in preventing and eradicating acts of terror in Indonesia," said Kim.

During the meeting the Head of PPATK Dian Ediana Rae said the Indonesian government had shown a strong commitment to become a member of the FATF, and was grateful for the support of the US government for Indonesia to become a full member of the FATF.

Indonesia currently has observer status and is currently in the Mutual Evaluation Review (MER) assessment stage.

“Although, the FATF MER Onsite Visit for Indonesia has been postponed several times due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. We ask for support from the American Government as a member of the FATF in accelerating the process of implementing the Indonesian MER-FATF. We see that the process carried out by the FATF is too rigid and unprepared to deal with the COVID-19 crisis situation," said Dian.
