Makassar Mayor Danny Pomanto Discusses Tourism Recovery With Badung Regent Bali

MAKASSAR - Makassar Mayor Moh Ramdhan Pomanto (Danny Pomanto) visited Badung Regency, Bali, to meet Badung Regent Nyoman Giri Prasta. The two discussed the recovery of tourism and the creative economy after being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Some of my agendas in Bali Province include visiting Badung Regency. Here, we share and discuss, especially regarding the creative economy and post-pandemic tourism," Danny Pomanto said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, October 12.

He said tourism has become one of the economic sectors most affected by the corona pandemic since it began to spread in March 2020 until now.

Danny Pomanto said, for almost two years, the economy in Indonesia, especially in Makassar, also experienced a very sharp decline and the tourism and creative economy sectors were the most affected.

According to him, the decline in the number of tourists has an impact on cultural products and consumption levels in all regions, even those with tourist sites are in free fall.

"I learned a lot and got inspiration from the Regent of Badung. My vision and mission about our destination is to develop tourism in the city of Makasaar. Of course, the culture is the best place to learn, namely in Badung. We get inspiration and innovation from the Regent," he said.

In addition to tourism recovery, Danny Pomanto also discussed a lot about the foundations of tourism defense, tourism clusters and tourism development.

"That's why I came here to study because referring to the history and culture in Badung is very strong. We will also apply that in Makassar City. We must preserve history and introduce culture to future generations," Danny hoped.

According to him, Makassar is already level 2 with the status of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Danny said, his party continues to be careful and keep control of community activities.

He also appealed to continue to apply health protocols. As for steps, there are steps taken in the context of tourism generation, namely continuing to educate the public to maintain health protocols including clean, health, safety, and environmental sustainability.
