West Kalimantan Police Save 18 Victims Of Human Trafficking, Promised Worker With High Salary

KALBAR - West Kalimantan Police (Kalbar) thwarted human trafficking efforts and secured as many as 18 victims of the crime. The modus operandi used by the perpetrators was an offer as an Indonesian Migrant Worker (PMI).

"In this TIP case, we have also arrested one suspect," said the Director of General Criminal Investigation at the West Kalimantan Police, Kombes Luthfie Sulistiawan in Pontianak as reported by Antara, Tuesday, October 12.

He explained that there were 18 victims of TIP, consisting of 13 men and five women. Three of them came from outside the province of West Kalimantan.

"From the suspect's hands, we also secured money from the crime, and a cellphone as a tool in carrying out his crime to contact outside agents in Malaysia," he said.

Luthfie said that the modus operandi of the TIP perpetrators was to promise jobs with high salaries, so that the victims were tempted to work in neighboring countries, Malaysia, even though illegally.

"The modus operandi is more or less the same as the previous one. They persuade their families and PMI candidates by promising jobs with high salaries to work in Malaysia," he added.

He appealed to residents not to be easily tempted by the large salaries and facilities received while working abroad. If you want to work abroad, follow the procedure and don't go through brokers.

Currently, investigators are still examining the perpetrators to explore the existence of other parties suspected of being involved, and the 18 victims have received intensive treatment.

Traffickers are threatened with a minimum of three years in prison and a maximum of 15 years in prison according to Law no. 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of TIP.
