JAKARTA - Several students and teachers who were victims of food poisoning for school-ordered rice boxes (catering) at SMKN 1 School Rejotangan, Tulungagung Regency, were allowed to rest for the next few days, including from the obligation to take part in face-to-face learning (PTM), to ensure that they are in good condition.

"Children must first take a break from all learning activities. And for health supervision, all will be covered by the school. We will also provide treatment compensation", said Head of SMKN 1 School Rejotangan, Masrur Hanafi, in Tulungagung, East Java, reported by Antara, Monday, October 11.

The policy was enforced specifically because the poisoning incident was considered an extraordinary event. The school also feels responsible because the provision of boxed rice meals is initiated by the school.

Even students who have been declared cured and are allowed to go home are still advised by Hanafi to rest first until their condition is completely fit.

The same thing was also applied to several teachers who experienced a similar incident, poisoning with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, dizziness accompanied by diarrhea.

"So after Saturday's incident, we collected data on students and teachers, the results were 24 people", he said.

However, not all who experience symptoms of poisoning are treated at the Banjarejo Health Center. Some choose to be treated at home, or to another clinic for reasons of proximity to their place of residence, or other considerations.

"Initially it was considered normal diarrhea, so they were taken to doctors and clinics outside the public health center", he said.

Hanafi added that currently, his party continues to monitor the condition of dozens of students who are still undergoing hospitalization at the public health center.

"Alhamdulillah, they are starting to get better, actually they want to go home, but because there are still complaints, they are asked to be treated first until they are completely healed", he said.

Until this news, it was reported that the number of students of SMKN 1 School Rejotangan who were undergoing treatment at the Banjarejo Health Center reached 14 people. However, their condition gradually began to improve.

The incident of mass poisoning at SMKN 1 Rejotangan began to be discovered on Friday, October 8, in the late afternoon.

Starting from some students experienced nausea, dizziness, vomiting and some had diarrhea experienced by some students after attending an art and creation exhibition or some kind of creative art performance at school in the afternoon.

Their condition partially worsened on Saturday morning when they returned to school and had to be rushed to the nearest health center for treatment.

From the examination carried out, it was suspected that the poisoning came from the catering food eaten by the students.

However, the police did an in-depth investigation, because the food the students ate came from three different caterers.
