TULUNGAGUNG - Dozens of students of SMKN 1 Rejotangan, Tulungagung Regency, East Java, Sunday (1`0/10) were still suffering from food poisoning with rice boxes containing noodles and eggs that were given to them by the school.
The Head of the Rejotangan Police, AKP Hery Poerwanto, SAYS that the mass poisoning was suspected to have occurred to students from Friday, October 8, to Sunday, October 10.
"Until this morning there were still 13 students being treated at the Banjarrejo Health Center, Rejotangan District. While 12 students were undergoing treatment at their respective homes," said Hery, quoted by Antara.
The symptoms of poisoning experienced by all of the students were almost the same, namely nausea, vomiting accompanied by diarrhea and headaches. Their condition partially worsened on Saturday, October 9, the morning when they returned to school, so they had to be rushed to the nearest health center for treatment.
"All of them experienced the same symptoms, nausea, dizziness, vomiting and some had diarrhea. The students' condition is still stable," said Hery.
From the examination carried out, it was suspected that the poisoning came from the catering food eaten by the students. However, the police did an in-depth investigation, because the food the students ate came from three different caterers.
"We are still conducting an investigation to determine which food is suspected to be the trigger. Samples of food and the rest of the students' vomit have been taken for examination in the laboratory," he said.
Confirmed separately, the Head of the Banjarejo Health Center Tumini said the condition of the students was still symptomatic and currently being monitored.
The symptoms they experience are not all uniform, depending on the condition and resistance of each body. According to Tumini, the recovery period from poisoning is estimated to take up to a week.
"The recovery process also depends on the condition of the student's body. It can take 3-4 days to recover, it can also take up to a week. But in general their condition is quite good, although some are still weak," said Tumini.
Dozens of students started coming to the Puskesmas since Saturday, October 9 afternoon. According to Tumini, the symptoms felt by students were relatively slow, within a day after the food came in. Though usually the symptoms of poisoning are visible within hours.
