JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked other regions to follow the model of mangrove rehabilitation as implemented in the Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park, Bali.

"This model of mangrove rehabilitation is what we want to replicate. We will copy it for mangrove rehabilitation programs in other provinces," said President Jokowi, at the Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park, Bali, quoted by Antara, Friday, October 8.

President Jokowi was present at the location to review the implementation of mangrove planting. Participating in the review included the Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar, Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster, and other relevant officials.

"We will continue to do this in coastal areas to restore, preserve our mangrove forest areas, and also to anticipate and mitigate global climate change that continues and will occur," said the President.

According to President Jokowi, the Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park has been under construction since 2003.

"And it is a pilot site for the rehabilitation of mangrove forest ecosystems in our country that combines education, education, tourism, and also to strengthen the community's economy," said Jokowi.

Through mangrove planting, President Jokowi expressed his hope that the area could reduce wave energy.

"It can protect the coast from abrasion, it can also inhibit water intrusion and improve environmental quality both in the coastal environment and habitat on the coast," said the President.

Jokowi hopes that there will be an increase in both the production of fish and other marine products.

"Especially the crabs that are suitable for mangroves and last but not least, they can increase people's income, and this may later become one of the 'venues' that we will show to G-20 leaders next year," said the President.

The area of Ngurah Rai Forest Park is administratively located in the Bay/Tanjung Benoa and its surroundings in the Kuta and South Kuta Districts, Badung Regency covering an area of 627 hectares, and Serangan Island, South Denpasar District, Denpasar City covering an area of 746.50 hectares.

The natural environment of the Ngurah Rai Tahura area has the potential for natural beauty and biodiversity in the form of mangrove forests, land animals (birds, crawling animals) and aquatic animals (fish, molluscs and shrimps).
