JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has confirmed that it will thoroughly investigate the alleged existence of eight people who were 'insiders' of former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Azis Syamsuddin to secure the corruption case that ensnared him.

This assurance was conveyed by the Acting Spokesperson for the KPK for Enforcement, Ali Fikri, to answer issues that developed outside. The allegation of Azis having a 'background' at the KPK emerged after the trial of former KPK investigator Stepanus Robin Pattuju on Tuesday, October 4 at the Jakarta Corruption Court.

"On the facts of the trial referred to by the KPK, of course, the KPK will not remain silent. We will make sure the team will confirm it with other information so that it becomes a valid legal fact building so that we can conclude whether there is an allegation," Ali told reporters, Wednesday, October 6.

For this reason, Ali then asked anyone who knows further information on this allegation to immediately submit it to the KPK Supervisory Board and the KPK. According to Ali, the investigation into the alleged presence of insiders in Azis Syamsuddin requires valid initial data.

Moreover, the KPK as a law enforcement agency must carry out its duties according to the facts. "It's not just a trial fact, for example from the testimony of one witness, let alone just an opinion without valid evidence," said Ali.

He then advised all parties to refrain from expressing opinions. As a state of law, said Ali, all parties must act in accordance with the law.

"We are worried that if we only echo opinions without submitting evidence, it will be a negative suspicion that can harm certain parties," he said.

"As a state of law, let's act according to the law. Respect and uphold legal principles by upholding the legal facts. Not the buzz of opinions without evidence," added Ali.

Previously reported, the former KPK investigator Novel admitted that he had known from the start about the insider who secured the Azis Syamsuddin case.

Novel, who was expelled from the KPK for failing to become a State Civil Apparatus (ASN), admitted that he had reported the matter to the KPK Supervisory Board. However, the report was never heeded.

During the trial some time ago, the BAP belonging to the Regional Secretary of Tanjungbalai Yusmada was read out by the KPK Public Prosecutor. In the file, it was revealed that Azis was suspected of having insiders to secure a number of his cases.

Currently, Azis, who is a former Golkar Party politician, has been detained by the KPK. He is suspected of giving bribes to Stepanus Robin Pattuju and is said to have introduced Stepanus to the Mayor of Tanjungbalai M Syahrial, which then led to the giving of bribes.
