Jokowi Forms Team For Economic Recovery And Handling Of COVID-19, Filled With Ministers

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo formed a Team for Economic Recovery and Handling COVID-19. The formation of this new team was legalized through a government regulation (PP) that was recently signed by Jokowi.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the head of this team was held by Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir.

Later, Erick will coordinate with a number of ministers as the policy committee, namely himself, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan, Menkopolhukam Mahfud MD, Coordinating Minister for PMK Muhadjir Effendy, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, and Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto.

The Economic Recovery and Handling COVID-19 Team will oversee two task forces, namely the Economic Recovery Task Force chaired by Deputy Minister of BUMN Budi Gunadi Sadikin and the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling COVID-19 which is chaired by the Head of BNPB Doni Monardo.

"In the PP, the president assigns a task to the policy committee and a team is created to control the most closely related to COVID-19 and economic recovery," said Airlangga at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta, Monday, July 20.

"The development of COVID-19 is related to developments in terms of availability of COVID-19 antibody test kits and vaccines, as well as multi-year economic programs," he added.

The task of the Economic Recovery and Handling COVID-19 Team is to see the national economic situation. From this situation, the team will execute a number of programs so that handling COVID-19 and economic recovery go hand in hand.

"This means that both (the COVID-19 handling program and economic recovery are handled in the same institution and with maximum coordination," said Airlangga.

Continuing, Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir said that his party would hold a meeting to prepare a program for handling COVID-19 and for economic recovery.

"We hope that this week we can convey the programs to the team leader, namely the Coordinating Minister and maybe next week we will immediately explain them to the President directly," said Erick.
