Midwife Who Died Due To COVID-19 In Kampar, Riau Receives President Jokowi's Award

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo gave an award to Neldawaty, a midwife from Kampar Regency, Riau Province, who died from COVID-19 on October 10, 2020 at Eka Hospital Pekanbaru.

Chairman of the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) Riau Province, Darmiati MKes, in Kampar, Saturday, said that the award from the President on Thursday, September 30 was handed over by IBI management to Neldawati's husband at the Air Tiris Health Center, Kampar.

"This is the government's concern for health workers who died in carrying out state duties", said Darmiati, quoted by Antara, Saturday, October 2.

Neldawati is a resident of Tanjung Berulak Village, Kampar District, who works as a midwife at the Kampar Sub-Public Health Center.

The member of the Kampar Branch of the IBI (Indonesian Midwives Association) was assigned to handle COVID-19 by the Head of the Kampar Health Center on March 19, 2020.

On October 9, 2020, Neldawaty underwent treatment at Eka Hospital Pekanbaru due to illness and suspicion of being infected with the Coronavirus. The following day she was declared dead of COVID-19.

The Head of Health Resources at the Kampar Health Office, Zulhendra, appreciated IBI's efforts to propose the awarding of midwife Neldawaty.

"There are also other professions who have died in their duties, but have not yet received a service star award from the president of the Republic of Indonesia, this is the hard work of the Central IBI management for its members", he said.

He said that in addition to giving awards, the government also provided compensation to the heirs of the midwife Neldawaty.
