CIREBON - The Regent of Cirebon, West Java, Imron asked the public to be brave enough to report findings of illegal levies (extortion) carried out by state civil servants (ASN). The goal is to keep the regional bureaucracy free from corrupt practices.

"The public must be brave enough to report extortion by ASN," said Imron, quoted by Antara, Friday, October 1.

Imron said the Cirebon Regency Government is committed to and supports the breakthrough formed by the Illegal Sweeping Clean-Up Task Force (Satgas Saber Pungli). This is done to make Cirebon Regency free from extortion practices.

Imron also invites the public to play a role in eradicating the practice of extortion, because this has damaged the joints of life in society, nation and state.

According to him, strict, integrated, effective and efficient eradication efforts are needed to create a deterrent effect on anyone who practices extortion.

"Hopefully this socialization can be used as a moral and cultural movement for all ASN. Because the bureaucracy must be clean, professional, with integrity, committed to improving service quality," he said.

Secretary Saber Pungli Inspector General Agung Makbul said the socialization was carried out based on the permission of the Ministry of Political, Legal and Human Rights (Kemenkopolhukam) based on President Joko Widodo's instructions.

"An order from the President to reduce extortion by public servants," he said.

Agung said that the practice of extortion felt by the community from birth to death, namely, birth certificates, education, licensing and certificates, looking for work, job skepticism, marriage books, pension certificates, and death certificates.

"All of that must be stopped, so that extortion is no longer disturbing the community," he said.
