PONTIANAK - The Tabur (arrest fugitive) team of the Attorney General's Office together with the West Kalimantan High Prosecutor's Office arrested a convict who was on the wanted list (DPO) for four years in the case of destroying 1,000 hectares of forest in Sambas Regency in 2017 named Maman Suherman.

"We arrested the convict Maman Suherman with the AGO's Tabur team, Monday, September 27 night at around 22.15 WIB, while he was at Pondok Indah Housing, Jalan Metro Kencana V, Pondok Pinang Blok PA 29, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta," said the Head of the Attorney General's Office. West Kalimantan, Masyhudi in Pontianak, reported by Antara, Thursday, September 30.

He explained that the convict was a former Director of PT Kilau Mas Perkasa which was engaged in oil palm plantations. The convict was proven legally and convincingly based on the Supreme Court decision number 92K/Pid.Sus.LH/2017 dated June 21, 2017 in the case of a criminal act of doing work or destroying forest areas illegally.

In that verdict, the convict Maman Suherman was proven to have committed a forestry crime with a prison sentence of three years and a fine of Rp. .

"Operation Sow against DPO is in accordance with the commitment that has always been conveyed that there is no safe place for fugitives, and fugitives will not live in peace, because they are always feeling anxious, restless, and afraid, because they will definitely be caught, and this is only a problem. It's just time," said Kajati West Kalimantan. So on that occasion, he appealed to the DPOs in any case to submit themselves to the next process as a form of responsibility for their actions.

"We urge the DPOs to surrender themselves before further action is taken, and for those who surrender is the right choice and of course I appreciate it if it is done," he said.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Gakkum KLHK, Ratio Ridho Sani expressed his appreciation to the Sow Team from the AGO and the West Kalimantan Prosecutor's Office for arresting the convict Maman Suherman who is a DPO for the case of forest destruction in Sambas Regency.

"With the arrest of the convict DPO Maman Suherman, it proves the commitment of the AGO and the West Kalimantan Attorney General's Office in law enforcement indiscriminately, and we hope that by enforcing the law for these convicts, it will provide a deterrent effect for others to do the same, namely destroying the environment or forests that have been damaged. It's a clear violation of the law," he said.

He added that the more than 1,000 hectares of land was confiscated by the state to be returned to its original function as natural forest.
