JAKARTA - The rainy season is coming soon. In anticipation of flooding due to high-intensity rain, the DKI Provincial Government continues the Gerebek Lumpur program.

Gerebek Lumpur is an effort to dredge mud sediments and garbage massively using heavy equipment. This mud raid was carried out simultaneously in 5 administrative city areas in Jakarta.

The Head of the DKI Water Resources (SDA) Agency, Yusmada Faizal, said that the mud raid activity had been continued since March 24, 2021, for the East Jakarta area, and continued in 4 other city areas in stages from September 2021 to December 2021.

"Starting today, a total of 408 personnel will be deployed in stages from 5 (five) city areas by deploying 46 Amphibious Excavator-type heavy equipment and 123 dump trucks. We are targeting this activity to be completed by December 2021", said Yusmada in his statement, Thursday, 30 September.

Yusmada hopes that the Gerebek Lumpur can reduce the volume of water during the rainy season at times, as well as facilitate the flow of water which is usually clogged with garbage.

"Nevertheless, we also need the role and cooperation of residents to be disciplined in disposing of waste in its place, as well as maintaining environmental cleanliness to prevent puddles during the rainy season", he said.
