MS, Victim Of Sexual Harassment At KPI Meets Komnas Perempuan Through Zoom Meeting

JAKARTA - MS's attorney, Muhammad Mualimin said his client held a virtual meeting with the Komnas Perempuan Commissioner.

Virtual meetings had to be held to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Whereas previously MS was scheduled to attend directly to the Komnas Perempuan office.

"There is a problem with the requirements for the process, so it was replaced via zoom at 09.00 WIB this morning," said Mualimin when confirmed, Thursday, September 30.

Mualimin said this virtual meeting was to ask for institutional support. Even though MS is a man, the tragedy experienced by the victim of MS has the same relevance to the duties and functions of Komnas Perempuan.

Mualimin added that MS also felt mentally more stable and stronger when he could tell stories of sexual harassment and bullying he had experienced to many people.

"MS does not feel alone if there are other people who want to hear her confession in person," he said.

In this virtual meeting with Komnas Perempuan, MS was accompanied by a team of legal counsel and was escorted by organizations that are members of the Community Concerned for Victims of Sexual Violence in State Institutions starting from Konde.co, LBH APIK, LBH Pers, Aji Jakarta, SuaraKita, Indonesian Women's Coalition, and others. .

The case of sexual harassment and bullying that happened to MS emerged after he wrote an open letter which went viral on social media on Wednesday, September 1.

In the open letter, MS admitted that he had been a victim of bullying since he worked at KPI in 2012. He even experienced sexual harassment by five of his co-workers in 2015 in the office.

MS admitted that he had reported this to his superiors and the Gambir Police in 2019, but the report was never followed up.

After the open letter went viral, KPI and the police started to investigate this case. Central Jakarta Police has examined 5 reported persons who are said to have sexually harassed MS. Propam was also involved in investigating allegations of omission.
