The National Police Chief Ensures Security Preparedness For XX Papua PON

JAKARTA - The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, has ensured that the security readiness for the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) in October 2021 has been carried out with the involvement of security personnel who have taken up their respective positions.

The National Police Chief ensured that preparations for security in the arena, the opening and closing which will be attended by President Joko Widodo, have been running.

"Of course, from our readiness, we can see that the entire series and security personnel have been "inside" and all are in their respective positions," Sigit said as quoted by Antara, Thursday, September 28.

Sigit hopes that with the entry of all security personnel from ring one to ring four, the implementation of security activities for PON XX Papua will run safely and smoothly.

In addition to ensuring security readiness, Sigit also ensures efforts to handle the COVID-19 pandemic in Papua, considering that the Government has allowed spectators at the four-year sports event.

However, the National Police Chief reminded that although spectators are allowed, there are still requirements that must be met by people who want to watch the XX Papua PON matches spread across four regencies/cities in the easternmost province of Indonesia.

According to him, the requirement is that the number of spectators is only 25 percent of the total capacity of the arena or stadium, and vaccines are mandatory.

"Our appeal is related to the activities carried out for the audience to attend 25 percent of the venue's capacity, for the spectators who attend have been vaccinated twice," he said.

To make it easier for the public to get the COVID-19 vaccination, said Sigit, the TNI-Polri have prepared vaccine outlets in four areas of the XX PON Papua arena.

"We together with the Panglima (TNI) have opened vaccine outlets in the four venue areas and we hope that this can be responded to, so that in addition to the vaccination process going well, the opportunity to watch because it is a requirement can really be implemented properly," he said.

The National Police Chief appealed to the public to take advantage of the TNI-Polri vaccine outlets and the Health Service to be able to provide the best service for the Papuan people.

"In addition to this vaccination, we continue to order the operations of the other task forces to secure it, so that the security of the XX Papua PON goes well," said Sigit.

The XX Papua PON will take place in Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Mimika Regency, and Merauke Regency on October 2-15, 2021.

There are 37 sports that are competed in PON XX, and the competition was attended by around 10,000 athletes and staff/officials from 34 provinces.

The opening of PON XX, which will take place at Stadio Lukas Enembe on October 2, is planned to be attended by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo.

There are 9,371 members of the TNI and Polri tasked with securing the XX PON in Papua.
