Gus Yasin Ensures Orphans In Central Java Due To COVID-19 Receive Expertise Training

JATENG - The Central Java Provincial Government prioritizes orphans due to their parents dying of COVID-19 to receive skills training.

"I say that because this is a disaster, and that disaster must be our priority," said Deputy Governor of Central Java Taj Yasin Maimoen in Semarang as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, September 28.

Gus Yasin, the nickname of the Vice Governor of Central Java, said that orphans due to COVID-19 after graduating from junior high school will be directed to state high schools.

"It must be a spirit for all, how to make it easier for these children to access education. If they need this (advanced) education, what we prepare is public education. SMA and SMK are public," he said.

For children entering high school because of its general nature, Gus Yasin suggested that certain skills training be provided.

"If they are not yet in SMK, of course the 'skill' must be processed because usually at the high school level, the list of civil servants is still not possible so it is necessary. or the Manpower Office, this must be prepared," he said.

Head of the Central Java Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control and Family Planning (DP3AP2KB) Office, Retno Sudewi, detailed that of the 9,807 orphans or orphans due to COVID-19 in Central Java, 5,772 of them were orphans, while the number of orphans was 3,608 and there are 427 orphans.

"As many as 41.72 percent of children who were abandoned by their parents due to COVID-19 in Central Java were aged 13-18 years," he said.

He said he agreed that the government needed to pay attention to COVID-19 orphans not only in terms of formal education, but also informally.

"So if they don't go to school, it could also be from Disperindag, Disnaker, Dinkop UKM (give) training from orphans whose age is approaching (adults), not children anymore," he said.
