BUMN Can Acquire Foreign Companies, Erick: It's Not For Fashion

JAKARTA - State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir emphasized that his plan to acquire foreign companies was not for fashion. However, the main goal is to improve the supply chain or supply chain in Indonesia.

"This is what we expect, how do we also make acquisitions from companies outside the country, the goal is simple, namely to improve our supply chain. Not a program that is called stylistic. But this really has to improve the ecosystem we hope for the nation. us, "he said, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta, Friday, July 17.

Moreover, said Erick, Indonesia has two advantages. First, the Indonesian market is large and secondly, its natural resources are abundant. According to him, this potential must be utilized to make Indonesia a country in the world. However, Indonesia also still has shortcomings that need to be fixed. Among these are logistics and technology.

Furthermore, Erick said, to correct this deficiency, the Ministry of BUMN will cooperate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that Indonesian products can expand abroad.

The cooperation between the two ministries was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding related to economic environmental cooperation to support BUMN to go global.

"Indeed, during a period of time that is quite close to the Foreign Minister, I want to immediately realize the things we have agreed upon and God willing, this will benefit us all, the benefits for Indonesia and it is time for Indonesia to be equal and even greater than other countries," he said.

On the same occasion, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi said that his party and the Ministry of BUMN had also agreed to form a joint team related to the BUMN plan to go global.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and BUMN will form a team with BUMN to go global to support the development and expansion of BUMN in the global market and joint identification of inbound and outbound investment opportunities," said Retno.

Retno said the MoU was preceded by a meeting some time before between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of BUMN. The meeting discussed the health business in BUMN.

"Two days ago I was accompanied by several teams of people from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' team on a working visit to Biofarma and held discussions with the Deputy Minister of BUMN 1 with the CEO of Biofarma with his team. Well, it came from the Deputy Minister of BUMN 1 to convey a long list of the cooperation we have done. together, especially in the health sector, "he said.

Retno said that this collaboration was about the procurement of PPE (personal protective equipment), operating robes, medicines, medicinal raw materials, cooperation in procurement and vaccine development, and collaborating to design pre-clearance medical information (PCMI).

"So usually if we want to sign it will take months. From the time the Minister spoke last week, we have followed up directly. Within a week this MoU is ready. Once again, as a basis for our work going forward," he said.

Retno hopes that the cooperation built by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and also the Ministry of BUMN can benefit the community and for Indonesia. "Once again, thank you for the cooperation that we have carried out so far," he said.
