Cinnamon From North Sumatra Is Exported To 10 Countries Including The Netherlands And Brazil

MEDAN - North Sumatra's cinnamon exports continue to increase to 10 countries including the Netherlands and Brazil.

Head of the Belawan Agricultural Quarantine Center, Andi Yusmanto, said that in August there were 593.3 tons of cinnamon exports worth Rp40.73 billion.

Exports continue to increase every month despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

In June, for example, cinnamon exports were still 455.5 tons valued at Rp. 13.89 billion and in August there were exports of 593.3 tons valued at Rp. 40.73 billion.

"Cinnamon is indeed included in North Sumatra's 10 main export commodities every month," Andi said as quoted by Antara, Monday, September 27.

In addition to cinnamon, there is crude palm oil (CPO), RBD Palm Olein, areca nut, slab rubber, areca nut, grated coconut and rubber wood, mustard greens and coffee, which North Sumatra exports the most each month.

Cinnamon exports were recorded in at least 10 countries such as the Netherlands, Brazil, the United States, Malaysia, Thailand, Germany, Ukraine, Portugal and India.

Cinnamon is imported by foreign countries to meet the demands of the pharmaceutical and food industries.

Although Thailand, Malaysia and India are also cinnamon producing countries, these countries still make purchases to North Sumatra.

There are also cinnamon producing areas in North Sumatra, including Deli Serdang and Karo.
