After Three Days Of Azis Syamsuddin In The KPK Detention Center, Golkar Appoints Lodewijk Paulus To Be Deputy Speaker Of The DPR

JAKARTA - The chairman of the Golkar Party DPP, Firman Soebagyo, said his party had held a limited meeting to discuss the position of Deputy Speaker of the DPR, who was left by Azis Syamsuddin because he was a suspect and was detained by the KPK.

During the meeting, he said, it was decided that the Secretary General of the Golkar Party's DPP, Lt. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Lodewijk Paulus, as deputy chairman of the DPR replaces Azis Syamsuddin.

"In the end, the prerogatives of the general chairman (DPP of the Golkar Party) were determined and everyone agreed that there should be no vacancy. I think that is appropriate," said Soebagyo, at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Monday, September 27.

Paulus is a retired lieutenant general of the Indonesian Army and was the commander of the Army Special Forces Command, the unit he had been involved with for a long time as an active member of the Indonesian Army.

According to him, the limited meeting also agreed on the position of Deputy Chairperson of the Golkar Party for Politics, Law and Human Rights, which was left by Azis Syamsuddin, to be held by Adies Kadir, who was previously chairman of the Golkar Party DPP.

He said the meeting also agreed that he would become deputy chairman of the Golkar Party's DPP for People's Welfare, replacing Kono, who was Indonesia's ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"The meeting also decided on the anniversary of the Golkar Party, which will be brought to the Plenary Meeting on Monday night. Therefore, it is better to go to the Golkar Party DPP Office because it will be conveyed directly to the general chairman of the Golkar Party DPP," he said.

He considered that the consideration of appointing Paulus as deputy chairman of the DPR was in order to reduce various possibilities within the Golkar Party internally. According to him, all Golkar Party cadres have the potential and opportunity to occupy the position of deputy chairman of the DPR, especially senior cadres.

"Golkar must also concentrate on preparing for the election and discussing the law because the election campaign is shortened. We must anticipate it because the goal is to win," he said.

Meanwhile, Azis Syamsuddin was forcibly picked up and named a suspect. Determination of the status of suspect Azis Syamsuddin as a suspect was accompanied by detention. Thus, Azis's successor was appointed after he was detained in KPK detention for three days.
